The Importance of Cultural Context
We live in a world with many different kinds of people, different cultures, different beliefs, and different issues. Those reasons alone emphasize the need and importance of understanding cultural context. For those people who live on the other side of the planet, a context for world issues helps us to better understand, and that understanding can also assist in guiding us on how to help.
Cultural context, however, isn't necessarily reserved for world issues because even with a country like the United States, there are many cultures and many differences. This also means that having a context for world issues can also help us to better understand those who live around us and what they might be dealing with - people like our neighbors, co-workers, and friends.
As a blog, How We Got to Now strives to be a source for information and knowledge, and hopefully, a way for all of us to understand each other and the world we live in better. Cultural context can help us understand how media has become the tool it has, or how the divide between the have and have-nots is created. And most importantly, we hope that this insight and understanding lead to living a more enlightened life.
